Two men were injured when gunfire erupted inside a hookah lounge early Monday morning in North Philadelphia, near Temple University’s main campus, police said.
The shooting happened just after 3 a.m. at a business on the ground floor of an off-campus student apartment building at 10th and Diamond streets, according to investigators.
A 48-year-old man was shot in his chest and leg, and campus officers took him to Temple University Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition, the PPD said. The other victim, a 28-year-old man, was hospitalized with four gunshot wounds to his torso and leg, according to law enforcement officials. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The PPD has not reported any arrests in connection with the incident, and authorities have not commented on a possible motive. Anyone with information is asked to call the police tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477).
Through March 29, 102 people had been shot in Philadelphia, down from 200 on the same date last year, according to PPD data.
