A driver was taken into custody after she tried to flee the scene of a crash that killed a man who was attempting to jump-start his car early Monday morning on Hunting Park Avenue, authorities said.

Police said 60-year-old Roger Bailey was trying to give his Ford Escape a jump after it had stalled on the 2500 block of W. Hunting Park Avenue in Nicetown. A 61-year-old woman was assisting him with her Subaru Forester, according to law enforcement officials.

Just before 3:45 a.m., a 26-year-old woman behind the wheel of an SUV struck the Ford, knocking it into the Subaru, investigators said. Bailey was standing between the two vehicles, the PPD indicated.

Medics took him to Temple University Hospital with severe upper body and head trauma, according to police. He died just before 4 a.m.

Law enforcement said the woman continued driving west on Hunting Park Avenue, though officers quickly apprehended her. Police have not released her name or what charges she may face.
