The Philadelphia Eagles are trying to navigate the seemingly never-ending carousel of players to suit up on the offensive line. On Thursday, they reportedly signed former first rounder Evan Neal, according to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team.
Neal, the seventh overall pick taken by the New York Giants in the 2022 NFL Draft was released back in August. The 6-foot-7 guard/tackle was then added to the Las Vegas Raiders practice squad shortly after, but was let go by the team on Monday.
Reports came out that the Eagles brought Neal in for a workout on Wednesday and he was spotted wearing a midnight green #79 jersey during the team’s first practice of the week ahead of their Monday Night clash against division rival Dallas.
The former Alabama product was a highly touted tackle prospect, with his combination of size and athleticism, earning an All-American nod with the Crimson Tide. However, Neal had a bumpy tenure with the Giants, starting his pro career at tackle before moving to guard.
In his rookie season he allowed eight sacks and in the following year, he was limited to seven games due to an ankle injury.
The 26-year-old has not seen the field in a regular season game since 2024, where he played in nine games and made seven starts for New York.
At worst case scenario, the Eagles are looking to add some depth to their offensive line that has essentially been blown up in a span of a few weeks with the early season injury to Landon Dickerson, who seems to be trending closer to returning, Cam Jurgens being traded to Baltimore, Lane Johnson retiring and other backups being banged up.
Best case, a change of scenery for Neal could lead to a potential bounce back and a low-risk dart throw for Howie Roseman that pans out.
In other roster news, the Eagles resigned running back Jaydon Blue who they waived on Tuesday. The team also announed they signed linebacker Anfernee Orji to the practice squad and waived tight end E.J. Jenkins.
