The Philadelphia Eagles made their first major roster move of the offseason, signing defensive tackle Jordan Davis to a three-year, $78 million extension. The deal includes $65 million guaranteed and makes Davis the highest-paid nose tackle in NFL history, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who first broke the news.
Davis was set to enter his fifth season on an option worth over $12.9 million. The No. 13 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Davis looked to be a solid run stuffer, but had not yet showcased the level of play teams hope for from a first-round pick.
Last season, Davis established himself as a high-end defensive tackle, posting 4.5 sacks, 72 combined tackles, nine for a loss, six quarterback hits and six passes defended — all career highs.
With Davis extended, the Eagles have one of the young anchors of their defensive front locked up for the foreseeable future.
The remaining question for Philadelphia is what will happen with Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith, who, like their teammate, are both former first-round defensive linemen and former Georgia Bulldogs. Philadelphia has time to make those decisions, though, as both Carter and Smith hold fifth-year club options next season, as Davis did this year.
