Artists looking for inspiration may find it along the Delaware River.

Glen Foerd, an 18-acre historic estate and public park in Northeast Philadelphia, is inviting local artists to apply for its 2027 Artist in Residence program. The residency offers one Philadelphia-based artist or collective the opportunity to develop site-specific work through research and engagement with Glen Foerd’s collections, architecture, natural landscapes and audiences.

Applications are being accepted through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6.

The selected artist will receive a $3,000 stipend for a residency running from January through October 2027, culminating in a public performance or exhibition opening Oct. 10. Eligible disciplines include music, theater, film and social practice.

The program encourages artists to experiment with contemporary creative practices while engaging with Glen Foerd’s historic setting, landscape and community, organizers said, adding that throughout the residency, artists will have opportunities to research the estate and develop work that connects its past and present.

The selected artist or collective will also lead an activity or artist talk for Glen Foerd’s Teen Arts summer program. The estate’s staff will provide assistance with logistics and marketing.

Two creative professionals will serve as jurors for the 2027 residency: Alex Tatarsky and Pete Angevine.

Tatarsky, a performance artist whose work blends comedy, dance-theater, performance art and song, uses humor, language and audience participation to explore community and identity. Their work has been presented at MoMA PS1, the Whitney Museum of American Art and The Kitchen. Tatarsky also previously served as Glen Foerd’s 2023 Artist in Residence.

Angevine is an independent creative producer and musician whose work brings together public art, experimental music, healing and the natural world. His collaborations have included experimental theater, public murals, interactive sound sculptures, watershed science tours and the development of a rapidly growing native forest.

Artists interested in learning more can attend a free in-person tour and question-and-answer session at Glen Foerd, 5001 Grant Ave., at 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 8. A virtual information session is also scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20. Registration is required for both sessions, with links available through the residency application page.

Application materials include contact information, a 250-word artist biography, a resume, a 500-word project proposal and five work samples. A recommendation letter is optional. The $10 application fee can be waived upon request.

Applicants will be notified of the selection by mid-January.
