Balance, breathe, float: Aqua Vida's floating yoga comes to Level 28

Posted

The city’s latest fitness experience is equal parts serenity, strength, and sights.

Philadelphians can sign up for a winter wellness experience with an elevated twist this January at AKA University City’s private club, Level 28. In partnership with Aqua Vida, the city’s highest indoor pool will transform into a floating yoga studio—75 feet long, 28 stories up—where expert instructors guide participants through balance-building flows on paddle boards, all set against sweeping skyline views.

Currently, there are three different classes set for the month, with the first date scheduled for this Monday, Jan. 12. If you can’t make it out to the initial class, locals also have a chance to experience Philly’s own “pool in the sky” on Jan. 19 and 26 as well.

The night starts off with the Pilates Express class (6 to 6:45 p.m.). As a release notes, the all-levels 45-minute workout on water focuses on the muscle-sculpting, core-firming benefits of Pilates. The added challenge of balance on the floating mat aids in the effectiveness of the class and allows your core muscles and small balancing muscles to “take center stage.” Aqua Vida notes this class is the ultimate in elongation and strengthening, with a focus on improving muscle elasticity and joint mobility—all on water.

Then the evening will continue on with a City Lights Floating Yoga class (7:15 to 8:15 p.m.) This experience specifically focuses on a slow flow with longer held postures, coupled with deep breathing. This portion is said to work wonders in terms of relaxation and stimulating your parasympathetic nervous system. Floating Yoga will be followed by a floating meditation each night to package the wellness experience with a mindful bow.

Designed for all skill levels and led by experienced local instructors, the Aqua Vida series strikes an approachable balance between challenge and calm. Whether you’re there for the workout, the views, or a bit of both, Level 28 offers a setting that elevates the entire experience.

Philadelphians have their choice of either experience on Aqua Vida nights at Level 28 in January (note, some February dates will be announced soon). The experiences are for all ages and skill levels (don’t sweat it, the pool is heated if you end up falling in), and tickets ($50) are available online. For more information, visit aquavida.com
