The Phillies front office waited until the last 8+ hours of the MLB trade deadline to work their magic and on Monday morning they reportedly landed a big bat.
According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Phillies agreed to a trade acquiring All-Star infielder Luis Arraez from the San Francisco Giants.
Arraez has long been one of the elite contact hitters in baseball. He is a career .318 hitter with a .779 OPS. He's been outperforming his career numbers in 2026, hitting .324 with an .801 OPS. The four-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger will be a welcome addition to a Phillies lineup that has hit .237 as a team in 2026.
Arraez will factor into the right side of the Phillies' infield. This season, he's appeared mostly at 2B for the Giants. He also has experience at 1B (with a few cameos at 3B). The Phillies could either move Bryson Stott to 3B or Bryce Harper could possibly be headed back out to right field for the first time since 2022.

In return, the Phillies are sending RHP Ramon Marquez to the Giants along with Marty Gair. Caleb Killian, a reliever, is also heading to South Philly.
Marquez has been one of the Phillies' top prospects on the mound. Ranked fifth by MLB.com, Marquez features a devastating change-up à la Cristopher Sanchez. He's also taken a huge lead foreward in 2026, posting a sub-two ERA in both Single-A and High-A. He's recorded a K/9 over 13 at both minor league stops.
Marty Gair is a former 2023 13th-round pick by the Phillies. He's a reliever who's shown wipeout stuff in the lower minors but with serious control issues.
Caleb Killian also comes to the Phillies in the trade. The right-handed reliever has a 4.26 ERA in 2026. He features a fastball averaging 96.6 MPH with a slider and knuckle curve that has been difficult for hitters to pick up on. He's struck out 53 batters in 44.1 IP this season.
