1 killed, 3 injured in weekend shootings across Philadelphia

A man was fatally shot on 52nd Street in West Philly, police say.

A man was killed and at least three other people were injured in gun violence that occurred Saturday and Sunday across Philadelphia.

Police said they were called just before 4 a.m. Sunday to the 1200 block of N. 52nd Street in West Philadelphia, where officers found a man who had been shot. He was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and died a short time later, according to law enforcement officials.

The PPD has not publicly identified the victim, and no arrests have been made. The shooting reportedly stemmed from an argument between co-workers at a newly opened lounge.

Early Sunday morning, just before 12:30 a.m., a 21-year-old woman came to Penn Presbyterian with a wound to her hand after shots were fired on the 100 block of N. Millick Street in West Philadelphia, investigators said. She was listed in stable condition. 

Authorities said a masked gunman shot a 19-year-old man during a suspected attempted robbery at around 10:30 p.m. Saturday on the 6700 block of Dicks Avenue in the Elmwood section of Southwest Philadelphia.

He showed up to Penn Presbyterian in a private vehicle and was treated for injuries to his left pinkie finger, according to law enforcement.

In North Philadelphia, a man was in critical condition after being shot just before 4:15 a.m. Saturday on the 2200 block of Palethorp Street, police said. Investigators provided no information about the circumstances of the shooting.

No arrests were reported in connection with any of the incidents. Anyone with information is asked to call or text the PPD’s tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477).

Through June 27, 80 homicides had been recorded in Philadelphia, a decrease of 29% compared to the same date last year, according to police data. The number of shooting victims is also down 35%.
