According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Philadelphia Eagles are set to lose another player to free agency. Reed Blankenship is reportedly set to sign a three-year deal with the Houston Texans worth $24.75M.
One half of the 'exciting whites', Blankenship developed from an undrafted free agent into a bonafide starter in Philadelphia's secondary. A Super Bowl champion, Reed became a pillar of Philadelphia's defense. He recorded 83 tackles, 1 pick, and 4 pass defenses in 2025, his contract year.
His new deal is one that many would assume Howie Roseman to be happy to pay. But with Andrew Mukuba's arrival in 2025 and a loaded safety class in the 2026 NFL Draft, it's fair to see why the esteemed GM passed on keeping him around.
It's sad to see Blankenship go. You don't often see players go from UDFA's out of a small school, to winning Super Bowls and becoming a commodity in free agent markets. Reed left his mark on the City of Brotherly Love, and as a personality, leader, and captain, will absolutely be hard to replace.
