For the next three months, shuttle buses are replacing nearly a dozen mid-day trains on SEPTA’s Fox Chase Line to allow crews to replace rails along the route.

The bus substitution began Monday, Jan. 5, replacing all weekday inbound and outbound trains between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. SEPTA said the Regional Rail trips are not scheduled to resume until Friday, April 3.

Trains will continue to run normally outside of that mid-day period and on the weekends. Impacted riders should add 30 to 40 minutes to their travel times to account for the shuttles.

The buses will take passengers to and from Wayne Junction, serving the Olney, Lawndale, Cheltenham, Ryers and Fox Chase stations. Trains will leave Wayne Junction 5 minutes after shuttles arrive, and vice versa.

Buses will depart Fox Chase, the line’s terminus, 28 minutes earlier than the regularly scheduled train to Center City, officials said. A full schedule is available for download on SEPTA’s website.

Riders of the Fox Chase Line may want to consider taking a bus to the Market-Frankford or Broad Street lines, referred to as the L and B in the authority’s rebranded Metro system. Alternatives are listed by stop on SEPTA’s website.

“A smoother, more comfortable ride” is expected after welders are done installing and adjusting the track, the authority said in a statement.
