The Philadelphia 76ers made a roster move today, converting former Chicago Bulls forward Dalen Terry to a standard NBA contract. In a related move, the Sixers have released veteran guard Cam Payne to clear the extra roster spot required to convert Terry. Payne joined the Sixers after the team’s trade deadline. He averaged 7.4 points and 2.6 assists for the Sixers across 22 appearances this season.

Dalen Terry initially started this season with the Chicago Bulls. After a flurry of trades at the deadline sent Terry from Chicago to the New Orleans Pelicans, Terry was waived from the roster. A few days later, after Dominick Barlow’s two-way deal was converted, Dalen Terry signed his two-way deal with the Sixers.

With the Sixers this season, Dalen Terry has appeared in 13 games, most recently on March 25 against the Chicago Bulls. He has averaged 4.3 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game, shooting 42% from the field and 25% from beyond the arc. However, Terry possesses prototypical three-and-D size, standing at 6-foot-6 with a wingspan of more than 7 feet. At 23, there is still time to see what type of player he can become with continued development.

Terry’s new contract should pay him just over $41,000 this season, according to Metro Philadelphia’s Zach Ciavolella. This would keep the Sixers below the luxury tax, something we see was a priority for the organization even before Joel Embiid’s recent injury.
