Friday evening brings along another installment of the 2026 MLS Next Pro season for Union II as they head out on the road and across the north border to take on Toronto FC II, as interim head coach Chris Harmon takes charge of his first-ever Union II game.
Last time out, Union II hosted Atlanta United 2 at the WSFS Bank Sportsplex, looking to finally get back to winning ways, both at home and just in general, as Ryan Richter made changes to the starting XI in the hopes of finding those all-important three points.
Unfortunately for Union II, they found themselves 1-0 down after just five minutes when Arif Kovac put the visitors in front by converting a cross from Mohamed Cisset. Philly, however, fought back in the 2nd half and found the equalizing goal just a few minutes after the halftime break through Matheus De Paula’s first professional goal.
Theo Reed would chip in with the winning goal just seven minutes from full time to put Union II up, and then George Marks made a fantastic double save in stoppage time to secure all three points for Union II.
The win against Atlanta United 2 was the start of a week of good news for Union II, culminating in the news that both Jordan Griffin and Kellan LeBlanc have been selected for the US Under-18 Men's National Team for their upcoming training camp in Spain. Thankfully for Union II, both players will be available for Friday's game against Toronto.
The hosts for this game on Friday are heading into this game on the back of a 2-2 draw with Columbus Crew 2, and then the Canadian team took the extra point in the penalty shootout via a 3-1 scoreline. Toronto currently sits 11th in the Eastern Conference standings and is struggling to find any sort of form this season. They do sit just three points behind Union II, so a win on Friday and they’ll find themselves tied with their visitors.
This will be the 3rd time these two teams have faced off this season, the first meeting was the opening game of the season and Union II came away as the victors, taking the game by a 1-0 scoreline. In the reverse fixture just last month, Toronto took the game, also via a 1-0 scoreline, so this 3rd meeting will be the deciding game of the season series between the two sides.
The game is scheduled for Friday, 29th May, with kickoff at 7 pm ET. The game will be streamed worldwide, for free, on both the MLS Next Pro website and the OneFootball platform.
