Watch Harlem Globetrotters surprise SEPTA commuters

The Harlem Globetrotters are in Philly as part of their 90th birthday celebration and have been up to a bunch of hijinks including entertaining commuters on SEPTA.

A video of the Globetrotters riding the SEPTA subway and commuter trains was released by the team on Wednesday and shows teammates TNT Maddox, Firefly Fisher, Handles Franklin, Hawk Thomas, and El Gato Melendez touring the city.

The Globetrotters recently stopped by City Hall to give Mayor Jim Kenney a jersey and teach him a few tricks, “which included spinning the ball on the tip of Kenney’s index finger and bouncing off of his backside — all of which made for great hoopla and fanfare for cameras on the day Kenney had a Police Athletic League (PAL) student tagging along with him,” Metro Philly reported.

If you think the Globetrotters are just about messing around and goofing off with basketballs, think again.

“We’ve been all over the world playing basketball,” Hawk Thomas told Metro. “For us, we love what we do. We get to spread joy and hope to kids who may not have the opportunity to really see their dreams come true. Everyone has their own story how they became a Harlem Globetrotter. It’s not all about tricks and games — you have to be an athlete. I can do just about anything you can imagine in the air with the ball.”

The Globetrotters are scheduled to play in Philly from March 4 through the 12:

Friday, March 4 at 7 p.m. – Liacouras Center at Temple University

Saturday, March 5 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. – Sun National Bank Center in Trenton

Sunday, March 6 at 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. – Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia

Tuesday, March 8 at 7 p.m. – Delaware at Bob Carpenter Center

Friday, March 11 at 7 p.m. – Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City

Saturday, March 12 at 12:30 p.m. – Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia
