Eagles general manager Howie Roseman acquired Bigsby to provide additional insurance behind star running back Saquon Barkley. Backup tailback Will Shipley left Week 1’s win over the Cowboys due to a rib injury and was listed as “questionable” to return, but he never did. Even with A.J. Dillon on the squad, Roseman preferred to trade same late futures to help ensure a functional ground game in 2025.

What are the Eagles getting in Tank Bigsby?

Philadelphia is acquiring a 24-year-old halfback with two years of NFL experience under his cleats. The 5-11 running back was elected by Jacksonville in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Auburn University. Bigsby racked up 2,906 yards on 541 attempts in 35 SEC games. He scored 25 touchdowns, including double-digit TDs in his final two seasons.

In the professional ranks, Bigsby has carried the ball 223 times for 910 yards and nine touchdowns. He carried the ball 50 times for 132 yards and two scores in his rookie year of 2023. The running back received more consistent playing time in his sophomore season, including his first NFL start. Bigsby rushed 168 times for 766 yards and seven touchdowns in 2024. Bigsby entered the season with a backup role in Jacksonville and received five carries for 12 yards in Jacksonville's 26-10 season-opening win over the Carolina Panthers.

The LaGrange, Georgia-native brings some much-needed speed to the special teams unit. Bigsby has returned 11 kickoffs for 314 yards over the last three seasons, including one return for 20 yards on Sunday afternoon. With the NFL emphasizing a desire to generate more returns on kickoffs this season, Bigsby could be a valuable asset to the Eagles' return unit.

The Eagles have a few days to get Bigsby up to speed with Philadelphia’s offense and playbook before a spicy early-season Super Bowl LIX rematch. The Eagles and Chiefs duel at 4:25 p.m. EST on Sunday, Sept. 14, at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 2.
