The NFL Owners Meeting is in full swing in the desert as top front office execs and head coaches are in Phoenix where rule changes and business matters are discussed.
Howie Roseman broke some news on Sunday, announcing that the team signed former first-round pick Joe Tryon-Shoyinka according to Zach Berman of The Athletic.
The 26-year-old was the 32nd overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by Tampa Bay out of Washington. He is 6-foot-5, 259 pounds.
In his first three seasons, he totaled 13 sacks and 31 QB hits with the Buccaneers.
However, over the last two seasons, Tryon-Shoyinka has just two sacks and just six QB hits. That includes his final season with Tampa Bay in 2024 before being traded to Chicago in November.
Last season, between time with the Bears and Cleveland Browns he appeared in eight games with each team and did not record a sack.
This is a typical Roseman move with the GM trying to find a bargain in free agency buying low on a former high upside player. He will provide depth to an EDGE room that includes newly added Arnold Ebiketie along with Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt.
As expected, Roseman was asked about A.J. Brown which has been the biggest storyline this offseason across the NFL. The general manager did not explicitly say that Brown would or would not be traded.
"I understand that there's interest in the A.J. Brown story. Unfortunately, I don't have a home under a rock. But my answer to any question on A.J. Brown is that A.J. Brown is a member of the Eagles. From my perspective, anything you ask me about A.J. Brown, I'm going to go right back to that answer. But I understand the interest. I put on TV and I see that there's interest. But my answer is A.J. Brown is a member of the Philadelphia Eagles." Roseman said at the meetings per Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The Eagles were expected to be the landing spot for Jaelan Phillips but the Carolina Panthers swooped in and snagged the pass rusher with a monstrous 4-year, $120 million deal.
It has forced Roseman and the Eagles to develop a Plan B, which for the time being has included the smaller signings of Ebikitie and Tryon-Shoyinka.
“At some point you’ve got to have a kind of parameters of what you would do, what you wouldn’t do, so you’re doing it in calm times. Happy for him and his family. Really enjoyed having him as part of our team. Understood why he’s in Carolina”, Roseman said to Berman.
As the meetings continue on, Nick Sirianni is scheduled to have his round table discussion Monday morning at 10:30am ET. It'll be the first time he can comment on the Eagles freee agency moves and more.
