One man was killed and another was in critical condition after more than two dozen shots were fired at a car Tuesday night in Fairhill, authorities said.

The shooting happened just after 9:45 p.m. on the 2600 block of N. Howard Street, near Lehigh Avenue, according to police.

Someone shot 29-year-old Joseph Marte, a resident of nearby Kensington, in the head, investigators said. He was taken in a private vehicle to Episcopal Hospital, where he died minutes later, the PPD added.

Police said the other victim, a 26-year-old man, was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was taken into surgey and listed in serious condition.

Officers reportedly recovered 27 spent shell casings, and a white Subaru vehicle at the scene was shot up, according to law enforcement officials.

No arrests have been made, and the PPD said the motive for the deadly attack is unknown. Anyone with information is asked to call or text the police tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477).

Through April 14, 33 people had been murdered in Philadelphia, compared to 57 on the same date last year, PPD data shows. The number of shooting victims is also down about 42% year-over-year.
