Free SEPTA rides offered after Philly World Cup matches

Airbnb is partnering with Philadelphia Soccer 2026 to provide free subway rides for fans leaving FIFA World Cup matches in Philadelphia this summer.

The company will sponsor complimentary trips on SEPTA’s Broad Street Line after all six matches scheduled at Lincoln Financial Field (renamed "Philadelphia Stadium" for the World Cup).

The free-ride program will begin at halftime and continue for two hours after each match, with service running from NRG Station near the South Philadelphia Sports Complex. Regular fares will still apply for trips to the games.

Free public transportation in Philadelphia stands in sharp contrast to other World Cup host cities, where transit costs are expected to surge. NJ Transit announced Friday it is charging $150 for a round-trip train ride, while in Boston, commuter rail fares are projected to climb to $80 for trips that typically cost about $20.

“At Airbnb, we believe the world’s most extraordinary moments are meant to be shared,” Airbnb's Jay Carney said in a release, adding that the goal is to make transportation more affordable and accessible for fans.

City and state leaders say the plan will help fans travel safely and easily during what is expected to be one of the city’s largest sporting events.

“Sports are big business here in Pennsylvania and a key part of what makes our Commonwealth a great place to live and visit,” said Gov. Josh Shapiro. “I'm glad Airbnb is stepping up to provide free rides for fans so they can get home safely and affordably.”

Airbnb, an official tournament supporter, said the program is part of a broader push to make the World Cup more inclusive for both visitors and residents.

SEPTA will operate regular service along the Broad Street Line, along with additional Sports Express trains running every 10 minutes or less to handle increased crowds for all World Cup matches.

SEPTA officials added that the transit system remains one of the most efficient ways to travel to and from the sports complex.

Philadelphia is scheduled to host six World Cup matches between June 14 and July 4, including a Round of 16 game on the nation's 250th birthday.
