MLS Matchday 14 Preview: Hudson River Derby, Nashville clashes with LAFC

MLS matches continue this weekend! With only two more weeks until the World Cup break, who will come out on top and be left in the dust?

Posted

MLS Matchday 13 gave us the second edition of midweek madness in 2026. What will Matchday 14 bring this weekend?

Lionel Messi and Julian Hall both scored hat-tricks on Wednesday night in wins for their respective clubs. The Philadelphia Union showed fight for what felt like the first time this season, but ultimately lost. LAFC continued their struggles with a loss to St. Louis City, and the San Jose Earthquakes lost to the Seattle Sounders.

The Vancouver Whitecaps have leapfrogged the San Jose Earthquakes for the top spot in the Western Conference, but both are level on 29 points.

With Matchday 14 here, there are more big matches on deck.

The Hudson River Derby is this weekend's spotlight as the Walmart Saturday Showdown. It's never a dull moment when the New York Red Bulls and NYCFC face each other. The Red Bulls hold a record of 16W-13-4D in the derby. Both clubs are even with 18 points in the Eastern Conference, so this match can have significant consequences down the line.

Nashville SC will host LAFC on Sunday Night Soccer. Nashville took down the New England Revolution 3-0 on Wednesday and remains at the top of the East. LAFC fell 2-1 to St. Louis City and has dropped to fifth in the Western Conference.

The Philadelphia Union now sees itself sitting at the bottom of the league. They host the Columbus Crew on Saturday night. These two clubs met on April 25, with Columbus winning 2-0. Hopefully, the Union can build off the momentum they created in their 4-3 loss to Orlando City on Wednesday.

There are 15 matches on this weekend's slate. Let's see what Matchday 14 has in store.

San Jose Earthquakes defender Max Floriani (25) and Seattle Sounders forward Osaze de Rosario (95) play the ball during the second half at Lumen Field.
