It was Sullivan night at Subaru Park on Saturday as Union’s brotherly duo combined for three goals to defeat Toronto FC on the final day of the 2026 season to cement Philadelphia’s spot in the MLS Cup Playoff race.
Cavan Sullivan got the scoring started in the 28th minute after receiving a ball into the middle of the penalty area from Indiana Vassilev, then slotted it past the Toronto keeper to make it 1-0 for Union with his seventh goal of the year.
In the 41st minute, brother Quinn Sullivan doubled Union’s lead from the penalty spot with his second goal of the season, giving the Blue and Gold a strong grasp on the game heading into halftime.
But seven minutes into stoppage time in the opening half, Toronto’s Josh Sargent got the visitors back into the game with a header from a corner that beat Andre Blake, making it 2-1 heading into halftime.
In the 58th minute, it was the Sullivan brothers who once again made their impact on the match after Quinn stormed down the left side, played a ball into the middle, and found his brother Cavan, who slotted the ball into the back of the net for his second goal of the night to make it 3-1 Union.
It was Cavan’s eighth goal of the season, and the first time the two brothers have combined for a goal in MLS play.
In the 73rd minute, Bruno Damiani sealed it in Chester with his 13th of the season from the PK spot, making it 4-1 Union and ending the Blue and Gold’s season on a high note heading into the MLS Cup Playoffs.
Just before the final whistle, longtime Philadelphia Union captain Alejandro Bedoya checked into the game for the final time, as the veteran is set to hang up his boots and retire after the 2026 season.
Bedoya’s final seconds on the pitch likely came in front of a packed Subaru Park, the place where Ale spent the final 11 seasons of his playing career.
The win at home improves Union’s record to 14 wins, eight draws, and 11 losses, putting them in 6th place in the Eastern Conference as the 2026 regular season ends.
Union’s qualification for the MLS Cup playoffs for the eighth time in the last nine seasons comes after a strong second half under Interim Head Coach Ryan Richter, who led the Blue and Gold to a 13-4-2 record coming out of the World Cup break.
The Union will officially face off against the New England Revolution in the opening round Best-of-3 series in the MLS Cup Playoffs; dates and times TBD.
