Prosecutors approved murder charges Wednesday against Keon King, the suspect in the killing of 23-year-old Kada Scott, whose disappearance sparked volunteer searches and made national news.
The District Attorney’s Office said the decision was made after the Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Scott’s death a homicide Wednesday afternoon.
Representatives from the MEO did not immediately respond to a request for comment prior to Metro's print deadline about her cause of death.
In addition to murder, King, 21, is now being charged with robbery, theft, firearm violations, tampering with evidence, abuse of a corpse, conspiracy and obstruction of justice, the DA’s Office announced Wednesday.
King’s attorney has not responded to requests for comment.
He was previously charged with arson for the burning of a car and kidnapping. King had been detained on a $2.5 million bond, according to court records; bail is typically revoked for those accused of murder.
Scott’s remains were discovered Saturday in a shallow grave in a wooded area behind the shuttered Ada H. Lewis Middle School in East Germantown.
She was reported missing after she was seen leaving a Chestnut Hill assisted living facility not long after her overnight shift there began Oct. 4.
“Our office remains in continued communication with the parents and family of Kada Scott keeping them informed of new developments in the investigation and prosecution of this case,” the DA’s Office said in a statement.
