New SEPTA Regional Rail schedules start Sunday

Posted

SEPTA will roll out new Regional Rail schedules this weekend as part of its ongoing effort to improve reliability and better match service with rider demand, transit officials announced Thursday.

The updated timetables will take effect Sunday, Feb. 1, marking one of SEPTA’s four annual systemwide schedule adjustments. According to the agency, the changes are designed to enhance service on several key lines, including the addition of trips on the Wilmington, Trenton and Chestnut Hill East lines. Riders traveling to and from Philadelphia International Airport will also see more frequent service from Wayne Junction.

Beginning Monday, Feb. 2, SEPTA will also begin operating newly acquired MARC rail cars on the West Trenton and Trenton Regional Rail lines. The additional cars will increase the number of vehicles available during the morning and evening rush hours and allow more cars per train, according to SEPTA.

SEPTA officials added the expanded fleet is especially important as the authority continues federally mandated repairs on its aging Silverliner IV railcars.

Federal regulators on Oct. 1 ordered SEPTA to thoroughly inspect its Silverliner IV vehicles – 223 rail cars built in the 1970s that comprise about 60% of the Regional Rail fleet. The mandate came in response to a series of five fives between February and September 2025.

Separately, service adjustments remain in place on the Fox Chase Line due to ongoing track work. Weekday shuttle bus substitutions between Fox Chase and Wayne Junction stations will continue through Friday, April 3. Buses will replace trains from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on weekdays.

Additional information about the schedule changes and Regional Rail service is available on SEPTA’s website.
