For the first time ever, Philadelphia earned a spot in Michelin’s 2025 Northeast Cities Guide, with local chefs and restaurants taking home 35 honors across a variety of categories.
The prestigious restaurant and hotel rating system was created by the French tire company over a century ago, and since its inception, it’s been an influential recognition in the culinary world. Restaurants can earn up to three stars, but there’s also the Bib Gourmand category (for good food at great value) and the Micheline Green Star (for restaurants with sustainable gastronomy.)
In Philadelphia, chef/owners Amanda Shulman and Alex Kemp’s Her Place Supper Club, chef/owners Chad Williams and Hanna Williams’ Friday Saturday Sunday, and chef/owner Nicholas Bazik’s Provenance all earned one star.
Her Place Supper Club utilizes its dinner-party atmosphere to spotlight its constantly rotating menu, and Michelin cited it as “accomplished and beautifully balanced.”
Friday Saturday Sunday also won the James Beard Award for Outstanding Restaurant in 2023, and has a notable bar program (dubbed the Lovers Bar) on site.
And with about 25 seats in its venue, Provenance offers an ambitious tasting menu experience that's focused on “craftsmanship and refined technique.”
All three establishments were recognized on stage at the Kimmel Center on Tuesday night.
Other local establishments earned a Bib Gourmand recognition as well, including Angelo’s, Dalessandro’s, Del Rossi’s, Dizengoff, El Chingon, Fiorella, 4th Street Deli, Pizzeria Beddia, Royal Sushi and Izakaya, and Sally.
Other city venues earning a "Michelin Recommended" nod include Ambra, Forsythia, High Street, Hiroki, Honeysuckle, Illata, Lazer Wolf, Little Water, Laurel, Kalaya, Mish Mish, My Loup, Pietramala, River Twice, Roxanne, Southwark, Suraya, Vedge, Vernick Food and Drink, Vetri Cucina and Zahav. Pietramala also earned Philly’s only Michelin Green Star.
These are the first-ever Michelin Stars awarded to Philadelphia restaurants, and the city is joining Chicago, New York City and Washington, D.C. to represent the US in this global achievement. Boston also earned its first round of Michelin recognitions this year.
“Philadelphia’s debut in the Michelin Guide is a tremendous milestone for our city," said Mayor Cherelle Parker. "The recognition honors the extraordinary creativity and dedication of our chefs, restaurateurs, and hospitality professionals who have built one of the most diverse and dynamic dining communities in the nation."
“The Michelin Guide’s recognition elevates our global profile, strengthens our tourism economy, and shines a light on the neighborhoods and cultures that define Philadelphia’s unique culinary identity," she continued. "We look forward to building on this momentum and ensuring that the opportunities it brings reach every neighborhood our city.”
