CAMDEN, NJ — Philadelphia 76ers’ star center Joel Embiid received a positive update Friday, but his status remains uncertain for the team’s upcoming road trip.
Following their Thursday night loss to the Atlanta Hawks, the Sixers returned to their practice facility to prepare for their upcoming road trip. Little on-court action took place, but there was something worthwhile to glean from the afternoon as the team provided an update on the status of Joel Embiid.
According to the Sixers, Embiid met with doctors Friday and was cleared to continue on-court work. He then participated in a limited on-court session today, including up-and-back with the team’s player development coaches.
Embiid’s status for Saturday’s game is expected to be announced in the team’s 5 p.m. injury report.
The Sixers are en route to New Orleans for the first of their back-to-back road games. Facing the Pelicans Saturday night, the team will again travel, this time to Minnesota to face off against the Timberwolves.
Currently, the expectation is that Embiid will travel with the team for the trip, regardless of his status.
Having lost three straight, the Sixers could certainly use Embiid for one of these upcoming games. The team has seen their net rating decline by 7.69 without Embiid on the court, and the team is struggling with the split life of playing multiple styles depending on his availability.
Factor in the heavy workload players like Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe have endured, and you have a recipe for the Sixers’ struggles.
