Craft beer lovers and cycling enthusiasts now have a reason to partner up — Tour de Love City will be in full swing on Sunday, Aug. 23.
With the inaugural event, Love City Brewing invites Philadelphia's riding and microbrew communities to come together for a day of biking, philanthropy, and celebration.
The community bike ride will begin at Love City Brewing's flagship Callowhill brewery and conclude approximately eight miles away at the recently opened Love City Manayunk taproom. Designed as a fun lead-up to the Philadelphia Cycling Classic (which is set for Aug. 30), the event will raise funds for Neighborhood Bike Works, with 100 percent of the ticket proceeds supporting the West Philadelphia nonprofit's mission—which is to provide equitable access to bicycling, bike education and repair for local youth.
Participants can check in at the Callowhill brewery between noon and 3 p.m., where they can fuel up with a beer and a slice from Viva Pizzas before the ride. Cyclists can then travel at their own pace along the route (which primarily follows Kelly Drive). Love City notes that the experience is meant to be accessible for casual cyclists and seasoned riders alike, no pro experience necessary.
Once riders end at Love City Manayunk (last call will be by 7 p.m.), everyone can enjoy an afterparty featuring a DJ, local bike vendors, beer specials and community festivities running until 8 p.m.
Every finisher will receive a commemorative medal along with a complimentary beverage, with pours like the Love City Lager, Eraserhood IPA, and the limited-edition Dream Build West Coast Pilsner. There will also be non-alcoholic options like the Low-Key Non-Alcoholic Golden Ale and Low-Key Non-Alcoholic IPA. Guests can also purchase additional drinks and barbecue from Love City’s on-site food partner, Sophie's BBQ, while there.
Throughout the event, ticket holders will automatically be entered into raffle drawings for Love City merchandise and cycling-themed prizes. Plus, to help riders prepare, Trek Bicycle Philadelphia Manayunk will offer complimentary pre-ride safety inspections during the two weeks leading up to the event (with repairs or replacement parts available for an additional charge if needed).
“With Philly being a huge biking town, we had a lot of fun putting together this itinerary for our version of a super-chill ride,” says Melissa Walter, co-founder of Love City Brewing. “At the core of Love City is our love of great beer and our desire to support our community – so finding fun and engaging ways to do both, like collaborating with Neighborhood Bike Works and their goals of providing equitable access to Philadelphians, is the dream."
The cycling celebration continues the following weekend when Love City Manayunk will host a Philadelphia Cycling Classic Watch Party on Aug 30.
Beginning at 8:30 a.m., guests can enjoy coffee, beer-mosas, Bloody Marys, breakfast sandwiches, and barbecue while watching the race course from the brewery's first- and second-floor. The taproom will remain open until 6 p.m.
The Philadelphia Cycling Classic is back after a decade-long hiatus. Although the last edition of the race was held in 2016, the Classic brings with it more than three decades of history. One of the event's biggest draws is its accessibility — the race is completely free to attend with no tickets or assigned seating required. On that date, the city is its own stadium and spectators can watch world-class cyclists speed by from sidewalks, stoops, parks, and public gathering spaces.
The 2026 edition also marks the return of the race's Benjamin Franklin Parkway finish, plus, the Classic is also returning as one of only three Union Cycliste Internationale-sanctioned road races in the United States. While the professionals headline the day's competition, the Philadelphia Cycling Classic also offers cycling enthusiasts the opportunity to experience the course themselves. Through a partnership with the American Association for Cancer Research, participants can register for the Charity Ride, taking on a lap of the same route while raising funds to support cancer research.
